Sex Therapy

I became interested in offering sex therapy to people living in Nelson when I learned that it is not an area that is covered by public services. Unfortunately referrals for assessment and treatment of sexual dysfunctions - mild moderate or even severe - are declined by community services, and have been since I started STN: Sex Therapy Nelson, in 2012.

I believe that sexual functioning is an important area of general functioning; it is not an area to be ignored, pushed under a rug, or forgotten. If left untreated, sexual functioning issues can affect other areas of general functioning, including over all happiness and relationship satisfaction.

It's time for people suffering from sexual dysfunction or issues of intimacy to have access to help. With an empathetic, respectful approach, my therapeutic style is gentle but direct. Humour and fun are essential, particularly in such a sensitive area that some find uncomfortable to talk about.

02

Adult ADHD

Adult Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) can go undetected for years, and can be missed by teachers or loved ones.

Characteristics of ADHD in adults can include starting many tasks and never being able to finish them, not being able to start a task due to getting overwhelmed as to where to begin, feeling as though you're not reaching your full potential (you understand what's required, you just can't seem to apply yourself), getting easily confused when there are many details or tasks to complete, to name a few.

I provide a comprehensive assessment for adult ADHD, which includes interviewing yourself, interviewing others close to you, taking into account records you hold (school records are especially valuable in this process), and your answers on questionnaires to compile a report on whether or not you meet diagnostic criteria for ADHD.

You can then take this thorough assessment to a local or online psychiatrist to discuss medication options if you do meet the diagnostic criteria.

ADHD is a fascinating disorder that can provide many benefits to the person who has it (for instance, many people with ADHD are especially creative and can be delightfully sociable). However, if you think you might have ADHD and you think it's causing you issues in life, perhaps an assessment could help.

03

Anxiety & Depression

Anxiety and depression can strike anyone, at any time.

Things can be going swimmingly and then these conditions can come about without warning.

Alternatively it may feel as though everything is getting on top of you and you're starting to feel depressed or too anxious to leave the house, answer the phone, go to work or carry out your usual daily activities.

Although life can feel as though it's too much, that it's getting on top of you, and you might be feeling hopeless that it will ever get better, therapy could be the answer for you.

Eating Disorders

Eating disorders can present themselves in many forms, from severe restriction (punishing exercise regimes, self-induced purging and other compensatory behaviours), to binge eating and feeling a total sense of loss of control over your eating. While my Masters and PhD focussed on binge eating, I have much experience working with bulimia nervosa as well.

I am passionate about the assessment and treatment of eating disorders, and have been excited to see my client's improvements along the course of therapy.

I understand that eating disorders come with many distressing emotions, particularly shame and embarrassment. I work compassionately with these emotions, while also providing support for you to help you move forward with your eating disorder.

Sexual Abuse

When you have been through traumatising sexual abuse, and you've decided you'd like to talk to someone, it can be hard to work out where to start.

I offer a confidential, empathetic and respectful approach to helping someone who has been through trauma. I outline the process that we will go through together towards recovery in a gentle manner, always remaining conscious of your emotional and psychological state. There is no hurry, we will take the time you need.

You can bring someone along at the beginning of therapy to help you if you need to.

I have been working with victims of sexual abuse and other types of trauma for over a decade now. While every client is different and they present with different needs, one thing has struck me as true; every person deserves dignity, respect, and support through the journey on the path to well being.

If you wish to meet with me to begin this journey, or to discuss your options, please email me on drcclyne@rocketmail.com to make an enquiry about my availability.

I'm no longer accepting ACC Sensitive Claims client requests, I'm sorry to say. Please email our business Clyne, Grigg and Associates on contact@clynegriggassoc.co.nz and we will ask our other ACC therapists if they have availability.
